Hello Everyone,
This year, we are running the Court of Honor a little bit differently. From
6:00 to 7:00 we will have dinner in the Fellowship Hall. In order to do this, I
need everyone going to the dinner to either a)
fill out the attached form or b) reply to me with the number of people in
your family that will be attending. The form needs to be turned in at the
meeting this Thursday, but I can accept email responses up till 9:00 p.m.
Thursday night. If you have any questions, please let me know.
I'm still looking for an M.C. for the Court of Honor on March
11th. If anyone is interested, please let me know by the end of the meeting on
Thursday, March 4th.
Thanks,
Billy M
SPL
Hello
Everyone,
During the Troop meeting this Thursday, Mar-04, we will hold elections for
Senior Patrol Leader (SPL). At the conclusion of the SPL election, Patrols will
conduct Patrol Corners and hold Patrol Leader (PL) elections.
Please find the
absentee ballot for this week’s SPL election attached to this message.
For those Scouts who cannot attend the election on Mar-04 due to a previously
scheduled conflict, please complete the attached absentee ballot and submit via
email to Pat Moroney before 5:00 PM on Mar-04. Your vote will be highlighted as
"absentee" and added to the other ballots during the election. Your identity
will not be revealed to the Scouts in the Troop. A "write-in" opportunity for
SPL is provided on both the absentee and Thursday, Mar-04, ballots.
At least 50% of the Troop members must participate in the election for SPL.
In the case where three or more SPL candidates run for the same job and no one
wins a clear majority (more than 50% of total votes), a run-off election will be
held between the leading two SPL candidates to determine the winner. As approved
by the PLC, absentee ballots originally cast for either of the run-off SPL
candidates will be re-cast and included in the run-off elections. Absentee
ballots not originally cast for either of the SPL run-off candidates will be
discarded.
The absentee ballot process will not be used for Patrol Leader (PL) elections.
Patrol Leader elections will be performed on paper and supervised by an adult
leader. At least 50% of the Patrol's members must participate in their Patrol
Leader elections. If 50% of the Patrol cannot participate in the election, their
Patrol Leader election will be postponed until such participation is possible.
Thank You,
P. Moroney
In addition to Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader elections, the Troop
will be electing new members into the Order of the Arrow on 04-Mar-2010.
Here are the eligibility requirements:
"Scouts are elected to
the Order by their fellow unit members, following approval by the Scoutmaster or
Varsity team Coach. To become a member, a youth must be a registered member of a
Boy Scout troop or Varsity Scout team and hold First Class rank. The youth must
have experienced fifteen days and nights of Boy Scout camping during the
two-year period prior to the election. The fifteen days and nights must include
one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six consecutive days and
five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards
of the Boy Scouts of America. The balance of the camping must be overnight,
weekend, or other short-term camps."
We will not be providing an absentee ballot for the Order of the Arrow election.
Thank You and Best Regards,
P. Moroney

MERIT BADGE ACADEMY!
Once again DPVC is holding a Merit Badge Academy.
This year, twenty-one merit badges will be offered.
However, a scout may work on only one Eagle required merit badge.
Den chief training will also be offered for Boy Scouts and Venturers who are interested in helping Cub Scout Den Leaders and Webelos Leaders with the den meetings
We are planning to run the largest Des Plaines Valley Council food drive at the Merit Badge Academy.
Please gather non-perishable food and bring it with you to the Academy. We will have an area for drop off during registration.
